Veerle Baetens, born in 1978 is a Belgian artist, singer, and director. She first gained popularity in through television roles, notably in the series Sara. Baetens later transitioned successfully into film, achieving international acclaim for her role as Elise in The Broken Circle Breakdown. Her emotionally intense performance in the film brought her numerous awards, including the Best Actress award at the European Film Awards.
In addition to acting, Baetens is also a talented singer. She performed many of the songs featured in The Broken Circle Breakdown. Expanding her creative scope, Baetens made her directorial debut with When It Melts, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Lize Spit.
Throughout her career, Veerle Baetens has been known for choosing emotionally rich and challenging roles, earning her a reputation as one of Belgium’s most respected and compelling performers.
